Earlobe piercings may become stretched or torn over time due to trauma or heavy earring wear. Wearing earrings while you sleep may also be the culprit.

Elective repair of earlobe piercings may be performed to close the piercing hole or tear. It is recommended to then wait at least 3 months after surgery before re-piercing your earlobe.

Once your new piercing has healed, it is important to avoid heavy earring wear or sleeping while wearing earrings to lower the risk of recurrent stretching in the future.
